Hip Fracture Care in the Murrumbidgee - Griffith

  • Griffith Base Hospital - Nurses Training School 1 Noorebar Avenue Griffith Australia (map)

Hip fractures can be extremely painful, and the provision of adequate, early analgesia should be a priority in the Emergency Department. Fascia iliaca blocks are an essential skill that can be provided by GP Anaesthetics, GP Surgeons and GP's working in the Emergency Department.

The objectives of the workshop are to:

  • To provide the tools and resources to enable the use of Fascia Iliaca Block (FIB) as an analgesic option for patients with acute hip fracture.

  • To ensure patients with suspected or confirmed acute hip fracture are provided with safe and effective preoperative pain relief.

  • To provide the skills required to perform an ultrasound assisted Fascia Iliaca Block (FIB)
