Community Resilience Training – Hay Shire Council
Hay Shire Council will deliver an integrated program of community resilience training to strengthen local capacity for suicide prevention and early intervention.
The program will be delivered by the Iris Foundation and will provide a stepped and accessible pathway for individuals across the community to build confidence, skills and shared language around mental health and resilience.
The training package includes Resilience First Aid Starter Training (RFAST), delivered as a 2.5-hour online Zoom workshop for up to 25 participants. This introductory session will equip participants with foundational knowledge and practical tools to support themselves and others.
This will be followed by Resilience First Aid (RFA) training, delivered face-to-face in Hay over two full days for up to 20 participants. This accredited training develops deeper skills to recognise distress, respond early and provide appropriate support, while strengthening community connection and confidence.
To specifically support young people, the program also includes Resilience Challenge Training for 16 to 24 year olds. Two face-to-face sessions will be delivered in one day, with up to 20 participants per session. One session will be delivered during school hours for students at Hay War Memorial High School, and the second will be delivered outside school hours for interested young people, including students and non-students.
Together, these initiatives aim to enhance mental health literacy, strengthen resilience across different age groups and embed suicide prevention skills within the Hay community.
